Samsung Galaxy RIng

The Samsung Galaxy Ring might soon be more than just a health tracker—it could become a controller for your face. A new report based on an APK teardown suggests the smart ring will feature gesture integration with the brand’s upcoming Galaxy smart glasses.

The discovery, made by Android Authority, found a specific string of code in the latest Galaxy Ring Manager app update that reads: “Ring gesture for glasses.”

This discovery aligns perfectly with Samsung’s recent focus on the XR space, which was highlighted by the debut of its Galaxy XR headset, made in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.

It also follows the trend we saw just yesterday with the launch of the new-gen Even Realities ecosystem, which pairs smart glasses with a ring for discreet navigation.

The whole-ecosystem smart ring

Samsung’s smart ring evolving to perform the same tasks as Even Realities’ equivalent makes plenty of sense.

After all, the Galaxy Ring has always been a very complementary device to the rest of the Samsung ecosystem. It features a ‘double pinch’ gesture to dismiss alarms or take remote photos on a connected Galaxy smartphone, and can even stand in for the Galaxy Watch for more comfortable sleep tracking or background health monitoring.

Expanding this functionality to XR would further that—and give it another distinguishing feature over key smart ring rivals, such as the Oura Ring 4.

Using a ring to scroll through menus or select items on smart glasses also solves a major problem with AR tech: nobody wants always to wave their hands in the air to control a screen. If this feature goes live—possibly as part of a Samsung Galaxy Ring 2—it could turn the device into an essential accessory for Samsung’s future spatial computing lineup. But only time will tell if it actually comes to fruition.
