Xiaomi has taken smart home security up a notch with its new Smart Door Lock M40 Pro, which boasts 12 impressive ways to unlock your door – double of what most smart locks offer.
Currently, the Smart Door Lock M40 Pro is only available in China, but you can tell Xiaomi’s aiming for something big by blending advanced biometrics, AI-powered recognition, and multi-device connectivity in its new sleek smart lock.
Among its dozen ways to get inside are the 3D structured light facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, and palm vein recognition, which you only ever see in super high-security workplaces. If biometrics aren’t your thing, there’s also support for passwords, NFC, app control, temporary codes, and even old-school keys. It’s flexible enough for any situation and anyone in the house, including the occasional guest.
The outside of the M40 Pro has two cameras: a 3 MP main lens with a huge 175-degree field of view and a 2 MP secondary lens at 128 degrees. These cameras handle full-colour video and night vision and use AI detection to spot faces, people, and even packages left at your door.
On the inside, there’s a 5-inch digital display, so you can see who’s there without opening the door. You can also use the Xiaomi Home app to check live or recorded footage.
The smart lock supports Bluetooth 5.3 and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and hooks right into Xiaomi’s HyperOS Connect, so it plays nice with the rest of your Xiaomi smart home devices. Power isn’t an issue either, as it runs on an 8,000mAh lithium battery backed by four AA batteries, which gets you about six months of use per charge. It also uses a C-level lock cylinder for better security and less noise.
Priced at CNY 3,799 (about £450 or $533), it’s certainly not cheap but the features more than make up for the price. Xiaomi hasn’t commented on if it’ll roll out availability globally yet, so for now we’ll just have to admire the locking mechanics from afar.
