Samsung’s latest update to its SmartThings platform brings a welcome surprise for Apple users: full support for Siri Shortcuts. No more juggling apps or fiddling with hubs – the integration means that now you can tell Siri to run your SmartThings routines straight from your iPhone, iPad, or even your HomePod.

Previously, Apple users needed to rely on the SmartThings app or compatible hubs to manage devices and routines. Now with Siri Shortcuts, SmartThings routines can be triggered by a simple “Hey, Siri, good morning” and other common voice commands, according to The Verge. This means your home can wake up with you, lights on, coffee brewing, and blinds rising. Everything is now hands-free and hassle-free.

Siri Shortcuts, an automation feature built into iOS, allows users to run tasks, automations, and sequences all with a single command. You can set them up yourself in the Shortcuts app or just use the ones Samsung adds right inside SmartThings. It’s a big step for anyone who lives in both the Apple and Samsung worlds, as everything talks a little better with each other.

Samsung isn’t stopping there. The company is also rolling out enhancements to its SmartThings app across Apple devices. On the Apple Watch, you can now scroll through every device, send commands, and trigger routines without having to grab your phone. Plus, if you’ve got iOS 16 or newer on your iPhone, Live Activities lets you control up to five of your recently used devices right from your lock screen.

This update is part of a growing trend where companies are pushing toward cross-platform smart home compatibility, aligning with efforts like Matter to make connected devices work seamlessly across ecosystems. And for Apple users who already have SmartThings gear, Siri’s newfound powers make everyday automation faster and easier to use.
