2025 Ring Video Doorbell on a red Background

Ring is adding a little more intelligence to your home security feed. The company has announced a new AI-powered feature called Video Descriptions (beta), designed to make notifications smarter and a lot less noisy.

Instead of sending a simple motion alert every time your camera detects activity, Ring’s new system will now generate AI-written summaries describing what’s actually happening. So, rather than a vague “motion detected” ping, you might see something like “A person is walking towards your front door” or “A car just pulled into your driveway.”

It’s a small tweak that could make a big difference for users with multiple Ring cameras or a busy front porch, cutting down on unnecessary notifications while helping you quickly decide what’s worth checking.

The feature is currently rolling out in beta and requires a compatible Ring subscription. For now, it’s available in English only, and as it’s still being refined, users might occasionally receive two notifications for the same event — one initial alert, followed by an updated version with the AI-generated description.

Ring says the system relies on advanced video analysis to understand what’s happening in each frame. But it is not perfect: low light, bad weather, or fast movement can still throw it off. That being said, the company puts a heavy emphasis on responsible AI with embedded safeguards that block out any inaccurate or inappropriate descriptions.

You can turn the feature on or off for each device through the Ring app, under Device Settings → Notification Settings → Video Descriptions.

It’s the latest sign of Ring’s shift toward smarter, context-aware alerts using AI to make your notifications more useful and less overwhelming. If all goes well during beta, this could become one of the most practical updates yet for anyone juggling multiple doorbells or cameras.
